Pray For Eyes To Be Opened To Christ
  By Zacharias T. Fomum

"And it came about that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, ‘Who do the multitudes say that I am?’ And they answered and said, ‘John the Baptist; but others say, Elijah; and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.’ And He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ And Peter answered and said, ‘The Christ of God’" (Luke 9:18-20).

"And Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Barjonas, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven’" (Matt. 16:17-19).

"...I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes. ...No one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him" (Matt. 11:25-27).

The confession of Christ by Peter was by revelation and the Lord Jesus acknowledged that it was revealed to Peter by the Father who is in heaven.

There is so much spiritual darkness in the world today. Even in churches where the Gospel is preached regularly there seems to be a veil on many hearts that prevents them from knowing the Lord Jesus. Many make decisions during evangelistic campaigns but these are mental acknowledgments of Christ without the revelation from the Father. Because there is no revelation, the so-called converts do not last. The fact is that they were never converted, for the Father did not reveal the Son to them. Even the fact that many believers read the Word yet do not seem to see or understand the truth in it in such a way that their lives are transformed, all point to the necessity of the Father revealing the Son and revealing the truth in the Word.

If there is going to be a change, there must be an increase in the quality and quantity of prayer for revelation. If this is done, there will be a change. The Father will answer the prayers and reveal the Son to the unsaved. He will hear the prayers and reveal the truth to believers and then they will cease to be hearers only. They will know the truth and it will set them free.

We insist that the Lord must reveal Christ to people and truth to the believer. Without His acts of revelation all preaching, teaching, evangelizing, reading of books, listening to cassettes, and the like, are vain. The carnal mind cannot receive the things of God. They must be revealed to him. This explains why those who attend churches with a strong prayer life respond more readily to truth from the heart.

The prophet Elisha prayed to the Lord for his servant saying, "O Lord, I pray open his eyes, that he may see" (2 Kgs. 6:17). God answered, for the Bible says, "And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw." He also prayed to the Lord for the Syrians saying, "O Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see." The Lord again answered, for the Bible says, "So the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw" (2 Kgs. 6:20).

The Apostle Paul was well aware of the fact that only God can grant spiritual sight and spiritual understanding. He therefore prayed that "the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might" (Eph. 1:17-19).

Have you ever prayed that God would open the eyes of those who have heard the Gospel but do not believe in Christ, to see? If you have never prayed that way, why don’t you start now? You can make a list of members of your family, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers and so on, and plead with the Lord that He might open their eyes to see. He will do it and they shall turn to Christ and be saved. You should do the same thing for believers who are in error or who have a mental grasp of some truth but its transforming power is absent from their lives. The Lord will surely hear and cause a new day to dawn in their lives! Praise Him.

Prayer for Herald International

As you pray for the Lord to open the eyes of others to Christ, please include the outreach of the various Herald International editions (see the list of countries and editions below). Pray for the Father to give the readers "a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him" and of all they possess in and through Christ. Ask the Lord also to open the eyes of the unsaved in these countries, so that Herald readers and other believers who share the Gospel will see wonderful response. And please continue to uphold the editors and their co-workers in prayer as they labor in areas with much spiritual darkness. Pray for strength, provision, protection, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
