Giving Glory To God
As Herald of His Coming completes seventy years of publication, we ask you to please join us in giving God glory and thanks! Through these years, countless readers have been helped in life-changing ways Ė stirred, awakened, convicted, instructed, inspired and so on. Through the kindness of many, Herald of His Coming has been privileged to share messages from choice, anointed preachers and teachers of yesterday and today so that important truths from Godís Word have become available to many, particularly outside U.S.A., who otherwise would have little access if access to them at all. Though lowly in appearance, Herald of His Coming has been entrusted by God with a lofty ministry Ė helping to nourish and prepare our Saviorís cherished "bride," to be a "glorious churchÖholy and without blemish" (Eph. 5:25-27), crucified with Him, risen with Him, and endued to labor with Him to bring to God people whom He has redeemed by His blood "out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation" (Rev. 5:9).
A Day of Small Things
God brought Herald of His Coming into being in 1941 in Los Angeles in a small room of a church building, where W. C. and Sarah Foulkes Moore were staying while they held daily prayer meetings at the church. A printer who was a faithful member of the praying group, wanting to see the fire burning in their hearts spread more widely, offered to print a paper for them without charge. The funds the Moores had to purchase paper stock for such a venture consisted of fifty dollars given by a friend. Inexperienced in editing and totally dependent on God for funding, Brother and Sister Moore stepped out in faith, and issue number one of Herald of His Coming was printed.
Seventy years have proved once again the remarkable faithfulness of God to those who put their trust in Him and obey His leading. We are not to despise the day of small things but to rejoice in the larger thing God can do through small beginnings (Zech. 4:10), to His honor and glory. Today Herald of His Coming in the English language is sent into 152 countries. In addition, messages printed in the twenty or more foreign language editions of Herald International are sent into countries using their languages rather than English. To God be the glory! His gracious plan is that all men the world over might come to the knowledge of the truth.
In the first issue of Herald of His Coming it was stated that it was being sent forth "to those who love Christís appearing, with prayer that we all may be ready at every moment for Christís imminent return: watching, while others sleep; praying while others trifle; laboring while others idle." We who had the privilege of working with Brother and Sister Moore bear testimony that they faithfully gave themselves on a day-to-day basis to being a true example of watching, praying and laboring.
Brother and Sister Moore humbly acknowledged their failings from time to time in spite of their sincere efforts to do all to the glory of God. They marveled at the grace and the blessedness of His presence that God continued to graciously grant to the ministry as they devoted themselves to fulfilling the calling He had given to them. They were loyal to the pattern they felt God had revealed to them, and that is why Herald of His Coming is a plain, newsprint messenger even today, so it can be printed economically that it might be sent out without charge, that no one be denied the life-giving Gospel because they cannot pay for it.
Brother and Sister Moore and staff took Matthew 6:33 as a firm foundation for their faith for Godís provision: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." In response to their faith and fastings and prayers, God brought in additional workers and finances and provided adequate housing as He grew the ministry. Often, however, the Moores and their loyal staff were called to glorify God in the midst of trials. They were often coping with the effort to balance time for earnest prayer with a heavy workload; there were times of shortage of personnel and funds, and times when Sister Mooreís health was frail. And always there was the burden for revival Ė "to see the church of God re-endued and empowered to rise up and bless the world" before Christ returns for His Bride. For over thirty years Brother and Sister Moore persevered by Godís glorious grace in their God-given calling, supported by a loyal staff of like heart who esteemed them highly. Then He took them to their rest and placed the responsibilities on other shoulders.
Herald of His Coming has always been a united effort of kindred hearts. Kept in Godís records are the countless friends who, through the years, have supported Herald of His Coming in one way or another. Some of you who are reading this right now are among that number. We are deeply grateful to you! The force of your prayers and your generous giving are part of the miracle that God works daily to enable Herald of His Coming ministry to continue.
Today we are seventy years nearer the coming of the Lord than
when God raised up Herald of His Coming to join in sounding the call to "Make
Ready!" The urgent need for the message deepens! Standing steadfastly together,
can we unite in asking God to enable Herald of His Coming to accomplish His full
will in awakening, and cleansing, and preparing a people to be WATCHING and
READY for the return of Christ for His own?
