"Christ . . . All And In All"
And we can live the remainder of our lives for Him! Or better said, we can give our lives to Him to live His life through us! Could there possibly have been a greater salvation provided for us than this – to have the life of Christ abiding in us? Take adequate time with Andrew Murray’s article on pages 6 and 7 – "Christ Living In Me" – as it sets forth this life in its strength and beauty. Read to the end of the article, where it also tells of the cost of full surrender to the will of God, which can bring suffering. Consider seriously, as Andrew Murray urges, "Am I willing for anything that Christ might take possession of me?"
Because of the salvation provided through Christ’s death, we are "new creatures," "new creations." The Apostle Paul instructs us in Colossians 3 to "put off the old," "put to death" the flesh life in which we lived before salvation, and "put on the new man" since we are now new creations. What a praise to God the church today would be if in actuality every member would "put on the new man" as the Apostle Paul instructs, and reflect the image of Christ: "…put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering: bearing with one another, and forgiving one another…even as Christ forgave you. …above all things put on love, which is the bond of perfection" (vv. 12-14). Would not the church then be that "glorious church…holy and without blemish" which Christ is longing to take to Himself ? (Eph. 5:27). He would see in perfection that for which He had suffered and died.
F. J. Huegel in his short article on page 6 stresses that it is only by Christ’s life within that we will have the victory we need to withstand the enemy Satan. This is a victory we have the responsibility to appropriate and make our own. Friends, we are living in "perilous days" when Satan and his demons are contending with God’s people in increasing ways. We need the full armor of God and we need the full strength of Christ within to "withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand" (Eph. 6:13). Christ is our life, our salvation, and our victory. "Christ is all and in all" (Col. 3:11).
The Apostle Paul also exhorted the Colossians to "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…" (3:16). Paul also tells us that Christ "loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word." This is key to making it the "glorious church… holy and without blemish" which is the desire of Christ’s heart (Eph. 5:25-27). And this blessed Word of Life, God has committed to His people to share! At Herald of His Coming we thank God He has privileged us, with the partnership of many of you readers, to take part in the vital ministry of sending forth God’s precious Word, so essential as Christ builds His church from people over all the earth.
