HERALD INTERNATIONAL (Printing In Over Twenty Languages)

Interceding For Herald International Workers

"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field’" (Matt. 9:35-38).

Jesus obviously cares deeply for people who are physically and spiritually needy. The passage above reminds us how He devoted Himself to meet the needs of others through preaching, teaching and healing, and also reminds us how He encourages prayer for other workers to work in the Lord’s harvest field. He desires that all people be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2:4), and so He longs for His people to join Him in sharing His Word and compassion with others.

As we consider the Lord’s heart for such ministry, we can be grateful for Herald International editors and workers who are already laboring in the Lord’s harvest field. Most of these saints have other jobs and ministries, and serve with Herald International on a volunteer basis, offering their time and efforts as an act of love to the Lord and as an act of compassion and concern for other brothers and sisters in Christ as well as for the lost. They translate, edit, print and distribute Herald materials in their respective languages as they seek to help build up the Church and reach the lost. We thank the Lord for these precious laborers!

We are blessed to occasionally bring to your attention particular workers and their ministries, and we would like to do this for all of the Herald International editions and workers. However, some of them are in such sensitive situations, we are not even able to mention them in the Herald, including in the address section below. What we can do, however, is ask that you join us in seeking the Lord on behalf of all of them. Not only could you pray for those countries, editions and workers listed in the address section below, but you could also seek the Lord for the countries, editions and workers that we are unable to mention in the Herald. Here are some specific requests you can pray:

Pray for spiritual and physical protection. A number of Herald International workers live in countries where there is active opposition to the Gospel. The Apostle Paul reminds us of the spiritual battle we are in, and he encourages us to "be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints" (Eph. 6:18). Though we are not at liberty to discuss details because we do not want to cause any additional problems for workers in difficult situations, we do ask for your special intercession. Pray that the Lord will deliver them from the lion’s mouth and rescue them from every evil attack (2 Tim. 4:17-18). Ask for the Lord to protect their families and the work they do in His name.

Pray for strength. The Apostle Paul describes opposition he faced and then he testifies, "But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed…" (2 Tim. 4:17). Ask the Lord to surround Herald International editors and workers with His Presence, and to give them strength to faithfully carry on the work He has entrusted to them. Their work can be physically and spiritually exhausting, and we can lift them before the throne of the One who "gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak" (Isa. 40:29). Pray that they "will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (Isa. 40:31).

Pray for their message to be powerful and effective. Pray that each Herald International edition will faithfully share the Word of the Lord and help teach, rebuke, correct, equip and encourage God’s people (see 2 Tim. 3:16 – 4:2). Ask the Lord to guide editors in the selection of messages that will be most beneficial in accomplishing His purposes for the readers. Ask Him to anoint these editions with power to deeply impact the lives and ministries of the readers. Pray that these workers and editions will bear much fruit to the Father’s glory (John 15:8).

Pray for financial provision. A good number of the Herald International editions reach readers who have little or no financial means to help support the work, and therefore, these editions rely on outside funds. Gifts from readers in other countries are very helpful, but even these gifts are not presently sufficient to meet the needs. Therefore, some editions are not printing as often as desired, or are not able to print as many copies as desired. In a few cases, limited funds keep former works from beginning again and new works from starting. Please seek the Lord with us for the financial resources to be available for every edition on His heart. Ask Him to meet all of the needs of Herald International according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19).

Pray for continued opportunities to share His message. Praise the Lord with us for each of the editions He has raised up to share His message, and pray for doors to remain opened, and for new doors for ministry to become opened. "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray…that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ…" (Col. 4:2-3). Many of the Herald International editions are reaching places filled with false religion where Christ is not recognized and honored as the Son of God. Pray that these editions will not only strengthen and encourage the believers who currently receive these materials, but that greater opportunities will open to help bring the light of God’s message to dark places.

Pray for boldness. When the disciples in the early church faced opposition, they raised their voices together in prayer to the Sovereign Lord, the Maker of all things, and asked Him to enable them to speak His word with great boldness. The Lord honored their prayer, shook their meeting place, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke His word boldly (see Acts 4:23-31). Please join us in praying that whenever Herald International workers face opposition, that the Lord will not only protect them, but that He will fill them with the Holy Spirit and with boldness to speak His word.

Pray for endurance and encouragement. The Apostle Paul reminds us that our God is able to give endurance and encouragement (Rom. 15:5). Please join us in praying that Herald International workers, in their work with the Herald and in all other aspects of their lives and ministry, will have great perseverance and encouragement to carry on faithfully in the Lord’s harvest field. Pray that the Lord will give them all of the inner resources they need, and that He will also give them much encouragement through fellowship with co-workers and other believers.

We hope you will pray with us regularly for Herald International. Also, as the Lord enables, we invite you to join the Herald staff and Herald International workers for a special day of prayer and fasting specifically for Herald International on March 16, 2009.
