News From The Herald Office:
Trusting God For Increased Ministry

  By Rich Carmicheal

The Herald office addition is underway! We rejoice that after some delays, work is finally started and will hopefully be completed sometime in July. We are thankful that volunteers will be doing the work which will help keep costs as low as possible. We are also thankful that some Herald friends have already given gifts to help with about two-thirds of the cost of materials (we still need about $10,000). The addition is only 924 square feet, but will be of great help since the Herald building is currently only 2,900 square feet. The extra space will include an office, a prayer room, a work area, a storage area, and an area for loading/unloading materials. We’ll put every square inch to good use!

Part of the reason for building the addition is because our present space is packed full. Another more significant reason, however, is that we believe it is on the Lord’s heart for the ministry to reach more people in the days ahead, and there simply is not room in the current building to increase the volume of mailing. So the addition is in part to meet present needs, but it is also a step of faith for the increase in mailings we believe the Lord is going to bring.

I must confess, however, that it is challenging to consider growth in the ministry at this point for at least three reasons. First of all, the Herald is receiving just enough each month (some months not enough) to cover the expenses of current levels of printing and mailing. It is more difficult to think in terms of growing in outreach when there is no surplus of funds.

Coupled with this is the difficult economic situation that more people are experiencing these days. From the world’s perspective, it could seem very unwise to be praying, planning and preparing for growth in ministry at such a time.

A third reason is because our postage costs, especially for mailing overseas, continue to rise significantly. Also alarming for this ministry is the fact that the U.S. Postal Service may eliminate the Global Bulk Economy service that we have been using for sending packages of Heralds to friends who distribute 100 copies or more. If this service is no longer offered, the cost of shipping these larger quantities of Heralds will also increase significantly.

So there are reasons that make the prospect of growth seem unlikely. However, there are even greater reasons to confidently expect the outreach of the ministry to increase! The main reason is because of who the Lord is and what He desires to do. He is a God of life who makes things grow and blesses His people with increase. As the Apostle Paul exclaims, "…God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘He has scattered His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.’ Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion…" (2 Cor. 9:8-11). When we look to Him, and love and serve Him, He promises to send rain in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that we may gather in a plentiful harvest (Deut. 11:13-14)!

Along with this is the wonderful truth that God answers prayer. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. …If you, then, though you are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!" (Matt. 7:7-11). Our expectation is high because we know that many of you friends are seeking the Lord on behalf of this ministry. We also know that many believers throughout the world are seeking the Lord for spiritual awakening in their own nations and the world, and we are eager to see how the Lord will touch the Church and many ministries, including Herald of His Coming, in response to those prayers.

Another reason we believe the Lord will bring growth to this ministry (and other ministries) is because of the great need in the world. The Lord is moved by the multitudes of people who need salvation and revival. "When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field’" (Matt. 9:36-38). The Lord does not want "anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Pet. 3:9). He "wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim. 2:4). As the spiritual need in the world increases, we believe the Lord desires to work in greater ways through His people to meet that need.

We also have such high expectations for greater ministry because of the encouragement of Herald readers. The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to "encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching" (Heb. 10:25). Your financial support, prayers, correspondence and other forms of encouragement help keep the fire burning in this ministry! As we see your passion for the Lord, your concern for others, and your generosity for the Lord’s work, our hearts are stirred to greater faith. How thankful we are for such faithful and precious friends! The Lord’s Return is drawing ever nearer, and what a blessed privilege it is to work together with you as we look forward to that Day!

Another reason for such expectation is the Lord’s provision of messages for this ministry. We have just returned from the Heart-Cry for Revival Conference, and the Lord has shared challenging and refreshing messages with us, and entrusted to us the privilege of sharing those messages with Herald readers over the next several months. We rejoice to begin in this issue with a message from Richard Owen Roberts. We continue to pray for the Lord’s anointing upon this message and every message in the Herald to do the Lord’s work in the heart of every person who reads the Herald. We also continue to pray and believe the Lord that He will open the way for many more to hear His message through this ministry.

And so we invite you to greater faith in your service to the Lord and to also join with us in believing the Lord for increased outreach for Herald of His Coming. The Lord has much on His heart for the world, and may we by faith enter more fully into His precious work!

Again, we deeply appreciate, and rely heavily, on your encouragement, generosity and prayer support. We hope that you will stand together with us in faith, looking to God and believing Him for increased ministry in the days ahead. You are welcome to contact us through a local office listed on the bottom of page 10, or through the U.S. Herald office at the address below. "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen" (Eph. 3:20-21).
