HERALD INTERNATIONAL (Printing In Over Twenty Languages)

Children Ė A Precious Part Of Godís Kingdom

One of the great joys of the Herald ministry is the privilege of joining together with a number of dear brothers and sisters in Christ who work with the various Herald International editions. These are precious servants of the Lord who minister to others in a variety of ways. For example, Brother Sanu, Herald representative in Nigeria and editor of the Yoruba and Igbo editions, also oversees a child evangelism ministry. Recently, he sent to us a copy of a prayer guide that focuses on how we can minister to and pray for children. This guide is very helpful, and we are blessed to print below some excerpts so that you might join him in praying for families and children in Nigeria, and might also pray for families and children in your own country and area.

Letís pray with great faith, knowing full well that our Lord desires to work through our prayers to the benefit of many people! As Brother Sanu writes, "In our family, we have a number of prayer bulletins from other ministries which we pray for regularly. We enjoy doing this because we believe it is a way of promoting these ministries and seeking for the fulfillment of the mandates God has given them. A ministry can only start with prayers, then be sustained and maintained by prayers.

"The mandate God gave Child Evangelism Team at the inception of this ministry in 1980 was to reach out to children and bring them to Him. He said He was raising up children who will know Him and grow into maturity in Him to the extent that we will have Christian presidents, governors, professionals and workers. God is looking for people who will cooperate with Him for the realization of this fundamental objective. Pray for more committed laborers in this field of child evangelism."

Items for Prayer

"Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace" (Psalm 144:12). Pray that our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth and that our daughters may be as cornerstones polished after the similitude of a palace.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it" (Proverbs 22:6). Deuteronomy 6:6-9 emphasizes the importance of teaching children the Word of God at every opportunity. Parents must know the Word of God. Pray for Christian parents that they will not neglect the spiritual care of their children. Pray for parents who are not Christians that the Lord will bring them to a saving knowledge in Him and so be able to impact their children.

The family is the building block of the nation. When there is chaos in families, the center cannot hold in the home. Broken homes is one of the causes that bring children to the streets. Pray for homes in this country. Pray that men and women will recognize the sanctity of marriage as an institution of God that must not be treated with levity and selfishness.

Churches have a role to play in the spiritual lives of children. In fact, it is the present-day children that will take over the churches in the future. Pray that churches will be alive to this fact and begin to pay greater premium on the spiritual welfare of their children. Pray that they will be ready to train their childrenís workers in all aspects of child evangelism. Pray for childrenís services and Sunday Schools that the messages might be simply presented in the power of the Holy Spirit that will cause children to yield their lives to Christ. Pray that teachers will be dedicated, committed and fully persuaded that their labor shall never be in vain.

Children need to be brought up properly so as to fulfill their future roles in society. Pray for governments to make their countries conducive for the rearing of children through provision of facilities that can enhance the well-being of the children, for example: healthcare, schools, security, peace, freedom of worship, etc.

Remember children whose parents are in cults. Pray against the teaching of wrong and evil doctrines to children. Pray for the deliverance of these children. Pray that they will come in contact with people who will preach to them the undiluted Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Children all over the world need our prayer. There is human trafficking where children are taken across borders to be sold as houseboys and girls in other lands. Some are even introduced to prostitution at a very young age. In other parts of the country, girls, 9 years old and upwards, are forced into early marriages to men who are older than their fathers. In some areas, children are being conscripted into the army where they are taught to be heartless, mindless and to kill. Earnestly intercede on behalf of these children that they might be set free. Pray against the brutality of children. Pray that the Lord will wipe out these evil practices. Pray that governments will sanction appropriate laws against such abuse.

Revival is necessary and needed in Nigeria. Pray that the Lord will bring about revival which will start from the Church, the body of Christians, and ramify the whole country.

Jesus said, "But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea" (Matthew 18:6). Praise the Lord for children who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Pray for their growth into maturity in the Lord as they read the Bible daily, pray often, attend church fellowship and witness to their friends. Pray for parents and teachers to encourage those children and help them to stand in the faith.

Again, what a tremendous privilege it is that the Lord allows us to join together with brothers and sisters in Christ around the world in praying for others, and also to distribute His message through the ministry of Herald of His Coming and Herald International. As we are faithful to seek Him and work for Him on behalf of others, we can be certain that He will be faithful to work through our prayers and service. To God be the glory!
