Theme: "Prayer! America’s Strength and Shield"

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped" (Psalm 28:7).

    Shirley Dobson, who chairs the National Day of Prayer Task Force, encourages us to participate in this day of prayer with these stirring words: "This is a critical time to be in prayer for America. The biblical principles upon which our country was founded are coming under attack in every segment of society. Yet despite this troubling trend, we can take heart in the knowledge that God hears and responds to the earnest cries of His people.... We are remembering you before God’s throne as we work together to spark a nationwide revival of prayer and repentance." (Used by permission from 2008 Product Catalog.)

    Each year, the Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force writes a prayer that can be prayed by millions of Americans simultaneously. The prayer for 2008 was written by Dr. Ravi Zacharias:

Holy Father, in a world where so many are hungry,
You have given us food in abundance;

In a world where so many are hurting,
You offer to bind up our wounds;

In a world where so many are lonely,
You offer friendship to every heart;

In a world longing for peace,
You offer hope.

Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant.
Have mercy upon us, Lord.

Our nation is at a crossroads this year;
we look to You to be our strength and shield.

Please give us the guidance to elect one who will honor You
and to respond to the wisdom from above
so that our hope may be renewed and our blessings be treasured.

In Jesus’ holy name.
