Lying To God
  By Keith L. Brooks

Charles Finney used to tell of a Presbyterian elder who said he got filled with the Holy Spirit as soon as he quit lying to God in prayer. How prone we are to make ourselves believe that our own estimate of ourselves is Godís. We compliment ourselves in prayer, instead of giving God a chance to speak to us. When at last we are silenced and the Spirit has opportunity to search our hearts, then only is the vacuum made which the Holy Spirit can fill.
