The Lord at Work through Your Support
 By Rich Carmicheal

Each month I have the privilege of helping proofread a new issue of Herald of His Coming. Usually I do this an article or two at a time, but last month I had the opportunity to read the April issue in its entirety in basically one sitting. I was very blessed during that time as I sensed the Lord’s anointing upon that issue and noticed the themes the Lord had interwoven in the messages. I especially noticed the number of references in the paper to 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." I sensed that one of the reasons the Lord had pulled these particular messages together was to give us a clear reminder of the difference we can make as His people. Our repentance, our seeking after God, and our intercession prepare the way for God’s blessing in the world.

When I reached page twelve and began reading through the excerpts from the testimony letters, I was deeply reminded of the reason the Lord established this ministry. I thought to myself, these precious souls (and many like them) who wrote these letters are the reason the Lord has put together the previous eleven pages, and why He makes it possible for this ministry to publish and distribute new issues month after month. I could not help but praise the Lord for granting Herald of His Coming the privilege of serving as one of His instruments to bring spiritual encouragement to many. These sorts of phrases from the testimony letters captured my attention:

"It is through the Herald that we have learned the deeper life in Christ and how to strive for holiness in the Lord."

"I am using the Heralds in my witnessing, Bible lessons and preaching …"

"Herald of His Coming has been a blessing to me and has energized me and stirred me up to pray for people all over the world…."

"I share the Herald with my pastor and members of my church. It has helped me and continues to help me to grow in God’s Word and strengthens me in the faith…."

"…More than 200 people are using the Herald in my church…."

"The Herald keeps me alert and encourages me in the Lord, to stand strong in Him."

The Lord’s Goodness

As I consider such testimonies, I know there are two major reasons why the Lord allows His blessing to flow through the Herald. First of all, the Lord works through this ministry, and many other ministries, because of His own desire to encourage His people. Our Lord is full of love and goodness, and He is faithful to be at work in our lives. As the Apostle Paul writes, "May God Himself...sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it" (1 Thess. 5:23-24). To this end, He has given us His Spirit and His Word, and has worked in the lives of His people in various ways throughout the history of the Church, including the raising up of many ministries.

His call upon the Herald ministry came in 1941 as W.C. and Sarah Foulkes Moore were involved in prayer meetings seeking revival. During this time the Lord led them to begin a printing ministry focused on preparing the Church for the return of Christ by promoting the themes of repentance, revival, prayer, holiness and world evangelization. He called them to keep the ministry undenominational, and to keep the "Herald of His Coming" publication unworldly, unadorned, and printed economically on newsprint that it might be sent without charge, so that no one would be denied the Gospel because they could not afford to pay for it. The ministry has sought to be faithful to this calling through the intervening years, and the Lord has been gracious to give His blessing.

The Lord’s Response to the
Generosity and Prayer Support of
Herald Friends

The Herald also experiences the Lord’s blessing as He graciously responds to the generosity and prayers of those who support this ministry. Even though Herald literature is free of charge, it can only be so because of the dear Herald friends who give and pray so that others might freely receive. The Lord admires such sacrifice, and works through these gifts and prayers. These passages come to mind:

"God…will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them" (Heb. 6:10).

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God" (2 Cor. 9:12).

"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased" (Heb. 13:16).

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest…" (Gal. 6:9).

"I [Paul] planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow" (1 Cor. 3:6).

"…the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does…" (Eph. 6:8).

The Herald ministry is blessed to be supported by some who are able to send in large amounts and by many who are able to send in smaller amounts. The Lord graciously works through the large gifts and the small gifts because in His eyes "if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have" (2 Cor. 8:12). All of these gifts add up to make it possible for many others to freely receive.

One recent example of the heartfelt and sacrificial giving of Herald friends is a gift from a reader in Canada. This brother gave generously even though he knew that some money would be lost in the exchange rate. Surely the Lord will reward him for his desire to bless others through this ministry in spite of this obstacle.

The prayers of Herald friends are also vital. It is in response to these prayers that the Lord grants anointing, provision, protection and opportunities for ministry. This ministry receives because of praying friends who ask; this ministry finds because of praying friends who seek; and this ministry has doors open because of praying friends who knock (Luke 11:9). The prayers of Herald friends are indeed powerful and effective (Jas. 5:16).

The Lord also works through the generosity of those who give of their time and resources to distribute packages of Heralds. The same is true of the friends who share their own copies with others and/or take opportunity to add the names of others to the Herald mailing list.

Thank you to all of you who offer support in some way. And praise the Lord for the grace He gives as we labor together!

Future Outreach

We cannot, however, keep from considering the need for many more people to receive revival and salvation literature through the Herald ministry. Although the Lord has many other instruments to share His truth and grace, we are eager for the Herald to be used as greatly by the Lord as He may have in mind. To this end, the Herald staff invites you to join us in seeking the Lord for greater anointing upon Herald of His Coming. Please pray that the Lord will provide messages month after month for the Herald that are timely and have His powerful anointing upon them. Pray for messages that will stir souls and help awaken the Church. Pray for His anointing upon Herald salvation literature so that many will come under conviction and turn to the Lord. It has been the longtime prayer of this ministry that the Lord will use the salvation paper "Right Choice" to help bring one million souls to Christ.

Pray as well for greater financial provision for the ministry. Sister Moore used to pray for one million dollars because she was so eager to see as much revival and salvation literature as possible go forth, so that as many people as possible could be touched with the Gospel message. Let’s pray with that same kind of desire and purpose!

Also, if you are not presently offering financial support for the Herald ministry, please consider the possibility of doing so. Your gifts, whether large or small, will help others receive Herald literature.

We hope to hear from you soon! You may write to one of the local addresses listed at the bottom of page 10, or you may write to the U.S. Herald office at:

May the Lord work through our mutual efforts to bless as many people as possible through the Herald ministry in the days ahead!
