Message from the publisher:
Our Hope Is In The Lord!
Although there are many reasons why one might lose heart in this hour in which sin and evil abound, there is also great reason for great hope. The Prophet Jeremiah reminds us of this as, in the midst of lamentable conditions, he writes: "This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him" (Lam. 3:21-25).
No matter how difficult circumstances in the world and in our own lives may be, there is always reason to hope. The source of this hope is the Lord. He is full of mercy, faithfulness and goodness. He is always at work, seeking to save the lost and to strengthen His people. The very fact that you are reading this gospel paper right now is evidence that He is at work in your life. He is calling you into a deeper relationship with Himself and into greater participation in His plans and purposes for your life. Even in the midst of the many troubles and uncertainties of life, we have the hope, the certainty, that our God cares for us and that He has the power and faithfulness to complete the good work He has begun in us (Phil. 1:6) and to accomplish His mighty work through us.
We also have the hope that a great awakening will yet take place in the Church and among the lost. Our God is a God who saves and a God who revives. He is not willing that any perish, but wants all men to come to repentance (2 Pet. 3:9). He desires that as many people as possible be prepared for the Day of His Son’s Coming. Even now, He is calling His people around the world to unite in prayer for a great outpouring of salvation and revival. As David Bryant reminds us in his message in last month’s Herald, "…people are praying today around the world in ways we have never seen them praying in the history of the Church…." And we know that our God is faithful to respond to those who seek Him in united prayer!
We rejoice that in these last days the Lord has given Herald of His Coming the privilege of serving as one of His instruments to promote prayer and spiritual awakening. Surely it is the hand of the Lord that has enabled this ministry to send forth revival literature and salvation literature all these years. As we consider the inadequacy of the Herald staff and the rather humble appearance of Herald literature, we cannot help but give the Lord the praise and glory for what He is doing through this ministry. For example, please take to heart these testimonies from three recent letters that illustrate how the Lord is working in the lives of others through the Herald:
From a reader in Nigeria: "From the depths of our hearts we express our profound gratefulness for mailing copies of Herald of His Coming every passing month to us. The articles have been helping and guiding us tremendously in our spiritual lives.... Through the Herald, we are encouraged to pray and be in tune with God. Whenever we are given the privilege to lead the prayer section in a meeting, we pick our prayer points from the Herald. We have made up our minds to be prayerful and watchful…."
From a reader in Eritrea: "I am receiving Herald of His Coming every month…I am feeding myself with words of God through the Herald…. Do you know how much I feel happy when I open my box and find the Herald in it? I always say ‘Thanks, Lord, to give me today this special gift.’ So please send the Herald to me always. I will always wait for you."
From a reader in Kenya: "It has been wonderful to receive the Herald every month. I read this month’s copy and was convicted to speak the message on preparing for revival in our first Sunday service. It was so touching that by the end of the service, men and women were moved in tears to rededicate their lives to prayer in readiness to revival. Like Bartimaeus, our small congregation in rural Kenya is saying ‘We won’t keep quiet, we are in need, we have to call our Savior.’ …I just wish you to know what great ministries are built through the Herald copies, how many ministries are enriched through those words."
Such testimonies cannot be explained except for the grace and power of our Lord. And the longer I work with the Herald, the more I discover that one of the main reasons the Lord works through this ministry is because of the heart of those who offer various forms of support for the Herald. For example, there are those who share financial gifts so that others can freely receive. There are those who uphold this ministry in prayer. There are those who help distribute Herald materials. There are those who graciously allow the Herald to print their messages. There are those who provide letters of encouragement to the staff. There are those who volunteer their time and energy to help with Herald mailings. There are those who work with the various Herald International editions. There are those who share the message of the Herald through their preaching and teaching. And the common mark of all of these dear friends is their heart for the Lord and their heart for other people! If you are providing support for this ministry in any way, please accept the heartfelt appreciation of the Herald staff as well as the many readers who are receiving spiritual encouragement through you!
Even though Herald of His Coming is just one among the many ministries the Lord is using in these crucial days, we realize that this ministry is able to share the message of salvation and revival with many people that other ministries are not currently reaching. With this in mind, we ask you to join the staff in seeking the Lord for His continued provision and anointing for this work. In fact, in light of the greatness of our God and the great spiritual need of these days, please join us in fervently seeking Him for an increase in His provision and anointing so that the Herald ministry can do much more to impact people’s lives and to advance the cause and glory of Christ!
We also hope that you will participate in PrayWORLD!2004, the 40-day prayer emphasis beginning on February 25 and ending on Palm Sunday, April 4. The first portion of the PrayWORLD calendar is printed on pages 9-10 in last month’s issue (January 2004) and the last portion of the calendar is printed on pages 7-8 in this issue. This is a great opportunity to unite in prayer with many other believers to pray for revival in the Church and spiritual awakening among the lost. You will also have the opportunity to pray for special groups of people in your community as well as for the needs of other nations. Praise the Lord for His promise to work through the prayers of those who turn to Him and seek Him! If you would like copies of the calendar to share with others, please write soon and we will gladly send copies as the Lord enables and as supplies last.
"Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory..." (Eph. 3:20-21).
