Sowing Seeds For Revival
Through Herald Of His Coming
A Report From Nigeria
By Rich Carmicheal
"Wilt Thou not revive us again: that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?" (Psalm 85:6).
If you are among those who are longing, praying and working toward revival in the Church, then I believe you will be very blessed to read a recent letter from Brother Sanu, the Herald representative in Nigeria, along with A Call To National Revival issued by Herald readers there. Those of you who support the Herald with your prayers and financial gifts should be particularly blessed by this letter and call because your help makes it possible for this ministry to send a great deal of revival literature to Nigeria. For example, each month over 14,000 copies of Herald of His Coming are being sent to Nigeria—about 7,000 as single copies to individuals and the other 7,000 in packages for distribution. There is deep spiritual hunger there and the number of readers is growing steadily. Even in the midst of much corruption, sharia law and persecution, there are many sincere believers in Nigeria who are pressing forward in the Lord. What a blessed privilege it is for the Herald ministry to have the opportunity to encourage and challenge these brothers and sisters!
In his recent letter, Brother Sanu writes: "We bless the Lord for how He is glorifying His Name concerning the work of Herald of His Coming. We thank God for our last Readers’ Conference in July. The Lord led us at that meeting to write letters to Herald readers as well as church leaders in Nigeria on the need to pray for revival in our country. Reading "Revival Fire" by Wesley Duewel there was no record found of any national revival in our land. We believe our country is very much in need of it to avoid God’s judgment. We believe God will stir up the hearts of our brethren to pray for revival…."
The Call To National Revival issued by the Herald readers at this conference states: "…A Herald of His Coming Readers’ Conference was held on 26th July 2003 in Ibadan. The main focus was Revival. This was the topic of exhortation at the conference. Revival is one of the main foci of Herald of His Coming in its 62 years of existence. The Lord challenged us on the need for revival in our country Nigeria. The Lord led us to review revivals that have taken place in other countries of the world (for example Wales, N. Ireland, England, U.S.A., India, China, and South Africa) and the outcome of those revivals. It was also found that in a book on the history of revivals, "Revival Fire" by Wesley Duewel, it was not mentioned that a national revival ever took place in Nigeria. Many had boasted of revivals in their churches or communities and are satisfied. What we really need is a National Revival that will reach into every nook and cranny of the country…. It was noted that revivals that took place in other lands came through deliberate, persevering prayers of believers. They were not usually many, but were serious minded and prayed fervently with all sense of commitment and genuine concern for the lost.
"The purpose of this letter as led of God is to challenge you to serious prayer for revival of our nation. Make it a duty to pray every day for revival. Form prayer cells with one, two, three or more people and set a time for constant prayer for Revival. Do this with all seriousness, honesty and faithfulness. God said He is looking for a man who will stand in the gap and make up the hedge (Ezekiel 22:30-31). If He cannot find such a man the next step is judgment. This is a clarion call you must spread to other brethren in your church, your place of work, among Christian colleagues, etc. You may write for further clarification on this subject or let us know your decision. This letter is the outcome of fervent prayers offered to God at that conference. May the Lord count on you."
Praise the Lord for this heartfelt call to revival. Might the Lord work through their zeal and prayers to bring a spiritual awakening throughout Nigeria. And might we join them in seeking the Lord for such a revival!
"Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages..." (Ephesians 3:20-21).
Update on the New Building for Herald of His Coming
As we mentioned in last month’s issue, the Herald ministry has purchased a building from a local church to serve as the new Herald office. The congregation plans to move out sometime in October or early November, and we plan to move into the new building by mid-November or early December. Please pray for the Lord’s help and blessing on everything related to the move. In addition to your prayers, we welcome any special financial gifts you might be able to send to help with the new building. We thank those of you who have already sent gifts as well as those who have sent notes of encouragement.
