Message from the publisher:

Obedient Unto The Lord
By Rich Carmicheal

This issue of Herald of His Coming focuses on obedience. In this light, I want to draw your attention to Andrew Murrayís book Learning Obedience. You can read an excerpt from this book on page 3--"The Morning Hour With God." I invite you to request a copy of Learning Obedience (in magazine format) when you write to Herald of His Coming this month. This book can help you deepen your relationship with the Lord and discover the fullness of life that accompanies wholehearted devotion and obedience to Him.

Andrew Murray points out how important it is that we do not lose sight of the Lord. While we certainly want to be obedient to the Lordís Word and to the service He calls us to, we want to first and foremost be obedient to Him. The Lord is not calling us to follow a set of rules and regulations, but He is calling us to know Him, to love Him and to obey Him.

We want to be careful to avoid the mistake that Martha made when Jesus visited her house. Although her sister Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to what He said, Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. Jesus told her that although she was worried and upset about many things, "only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her" (Luke 10:41-42). We need to guard against the tendency of becoming so preoccupied and busy in our Christian lives that we neglect fellowship with the Lord. Like Mary, we need to choose to spend time in His presence.

We also need to be careful that we do not elevate the Scriptures above our fellowship with the Lord. Jesus gives this warning: "You search the Scriptures, because you think in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life" (John 5:39-40). The Bible is not an end in itself, but instead it is to lead us into greater obedience to the Lord and deeper fellowship with Him.

May the Lord help each of us draw closer to Him!

I also call your attention to the PrayWORLD!2002 prayer calendar printed on pages 7-8. We hope that you will use the calendar to unite with other believers in intercession for the Church, for the lost, for special groups of people in your community, and for people and nations throughout the world. If you are not currently involved, we hope that you will begin today. This is a great opportunity to impact the lives of many people as you lift them in prayer before the Lord.

We thank all of you who support Herald of His Coming through your prayers, encouragement and financial gifts. Because of your involvement, this ministry continues to freely distribute the Herald and other gospel literature to spiritually hungry souls worldwide. Many people are being blessed through your generosity and we trust that the Lord is also blessed and pleased as you give for the benefit of others.

May We Hear From You?

If you are not currently supporting the Herald ministry in some way and would like to begin doing so, please feel welcome to write. Your support will help this ministry continue to share the Lordís message with others. You may write to this address:
