Readiness For The Lord's Return
 By W. C. Moore

The Bible has much to say about being ready when Jesus returns!

Jesus, the Head of the Church, says in Revelation 3:11, "Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown."

In Matthew 24:44-46 we read, "Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord has made ruler over His household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when He cometh shall find so doing."

Hebrews 9:28 says, "Unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation." The expression, "Look for Him" may be paraphrased to read "to expect Him fully," "to look (wait) for Him."

In Mark 13:34-37 we read, "For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the Master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."

After we are saved, Jesus is our Lord and master as well as our Saviour (John 13:13-17). We ought to keep in touch with our Lord, to follow the leadings of the Holy Spirit, and to take the Word of God as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Ps. 119:105). Our whole attitude should be one of alertness, watchfulness, and holiness unto the Lord.

Hear the Apostle Paul: "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:12-14).

So ought we to be looking for and preparing for the Lord's return!
