Pray – This Is What We Must Do!
 By Sarah Foulkes Moore

Is it not true that the prayers of Hezekiah and Isaiah turned back the great army of Sennacherib? Did not Daniel alone, in fasting and prayer, pray Cyrus into a disposition to send the Jews back into their land? And did not the prayers of Nehemiah turn the heart of Artaxerxes to send Nehemiah again to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem? Is not the great and terrible God, who hurled the wicked Nebuchadnezzar off his throne and sent him to the fields to eat grass like an ox—is He not the God of our salvation?

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear” (Isa. 59:1,2).

The one tremendous need of every nation is a moral and spiritual awakening. It is the need of every city, every community, every church and every home. And every individual has a great responsibility in bringing such a revival as will purge politics, redeem society, and save the nation from its enemies.

Let all the people of God now unite in one tremendous cry to God for revival—a revival of pure and aggressive religion throughout the earth. When Christians weep and pray, the Heavens will open!

“A life and death struggle is on in which all the forces that hate the gospel are uniting against those who bear aloft His Cross and herald His Saviourhood.”

Before revival came to Wales in 1904 that small principality had 400 extra prayer groups! Ministers of the Lord must lead the way in calling to prayer and in calling their own people to solemn assemblies of prayer. Cottage prayer meetings must be started. Church prayer towers must be manned day and night, men praying by relays during the night, and women during the day.

Where Prayer Is Focused, Power Falls

Let prayer be focused—not only in asking the Lord for a sin-convicting revival, a Heaven-sent revival—but also in pleading for righteous leaders for our nation, men who fear God and look to Him for help and guidance.

And as you intercede, add fasting to prayer. Days and nights of persistent, fasting-prayer weaken the strongest forces of the enemy. Persistent, prevailing, fasting-prayer frees God’s infinite power until the cry of awakened sinners is heard everywhere in the land, even in high offices of state.

“Shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him? . . . I tell you that He will avenge them speedily” (Luke 18:7,8). By praying day and night, that is, by relays of companies, we push our claims to an issue. What is the use of praying for months and years when the answer may be had speedily if we pray day and night?

A missionary writing home pleaded, “Will you join us in overtime intercession?” And we re-echo her plea as we entreat every reader to give himself to “overtime intercession,” alone and with others, until the Heavens are rent and the skies pour down righteousness.
